Cascade
The original American craft hop — grapefruit, floral, citrus.
Description
Released by the USDA in 1972, Cascade defined the American Pale Ale and remains a workhorse of the craft scene. Its distinctive grapefruit-forward citrus character with floral undertones makes it the prototypical 'C-hop'.
Bred at Oregon State University from a Fuggle x Russian Serebrianker cross. Released in 1972; commercialized for craft use a decade later via Sierra Nevada.
