Licensing
BJCP licensing gate: PENDING.
The Beer Judge Certification Program (BJCP) publishes the 2021 Style Guidelines, the de facto reference for beer style taxonomy and vital-stat ranges. Original Function legal review of the BJCP licensing terms is in progress.
Until that review concludes, the styles published on lets-make.beer (currently five seed entries — American IPA, American Pale Ale, Stout, Hefeweizen, Saison) are written entirely from scratch by Original Function authors. Style names use common-usage names, not BJCP category labels. Numerical OG / FG / ABV / IBU / SRM ranges reflect the broad consensus across multiple primary brewing-literature sources (Palmer, Mosher, Daniels) and should not be read as paraphrased from the BJCP guidelines.
Once the licensing posture is finalized, this page will document the outcome — either:
- Derive from BJCP with attribution — style ranges and
category names track the BJCP 2021 guidelines, with attribution shown
in the footer of every
/styles/*page. - Original taxonomy — categories and ranges remain independently sourced; no BJCP attribution appears.
